The Parris-Castoro ASC is equipped with two operating rooms, a laser procedure room, a substerile room, a pre-operative and recovery suite and a comfortable lounge area for patients and family members. In addition to cataract surgery, the ASC is used for eyelid surgery, glaucoma surgery, radial keratotomy (nearsightedness corrective) surgery, corneal transplants and various other eye and lid surgeries.  Along with the ASC, Parris-Castoro Eye & Laser Center also has a laser suite for vision correction.  The center uses the most advanced Visx laser, the Star S4 and the Nidek EC 5000.  Visx is the worldwide leader in design and manufacturing of vision correction lasers.  The laser corrects for nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism.

The Parris-Castoro ASC is classified as "Medicare Certified," ensuring that our patients receive the highest quality level of surgical services. Doctors Parris and Castoro were among the first surgeons in Maryland to perform out-patient cataract surgery and intraocular lens implants.

When Medicare began to limit many eye surgeries to same-day procedures, Doctors Parris and Castoro decided to build to their Ambulatory Surgery Center.  Their goal was to provide a comfortable environment, free from the anxiety and stress of a hospital setting as well as reducing the out-of-pocket expenses of their patients.

"For cataract surgery alone, studies have indicated that at least $100 million could be saved by Medicare annually if outpatient facilities are selected instead of hospitalization whenever possible," he adds.
