Routine
eye examinations are recommended for children and adults to diagnose and
treat eye conditions that may occur in the eye and surrounding structures.
Damage from most eye diseases are preventable if conditions are diagnosed
early and treated properly.
For adults such conditions are: diabetes, high blood pressure, glaucoma,
cataracts, hypertension, thyroid disorder, lupus, multiple sclerosis, macular
degeneration, plus retinal detachments and tears. For individuals using
computers, fatigue, eyestrain, and sometimes headaches may occur.
For children, a serious condition that requires early treatment is a lazy
eye. Lazy eye is asymptomatic and often cannot be detected by parents, teachers,
or the child.
Our doctors of optometry are therapeutically certified in the use of ocular
medications to diagnose and treat eye conditions, prescribe eyeglasses and
contact lenses, along with co-managing conditions with our medical doctors.
Emergency Eye Care
Our doctors are on call 24 hours a day and are trained to treat conditions
of the eye requiring immediate attention. Included in this category are
foreign bodies (dirt, wood, metal, fingernail, etc), scratches of eye, flashes
and floaters commonly seen as "cob webs," red eyes, and common eye infections.
