Cataracts

What is a cataract?

A cataract is a clouding of the naturally clear lens of your eye. Slowly but surely, a cataract can lessen your enjoyment of life. Your eyes grow sensitive to light or glare. Night driving becomes a problem. Even the most familiar things seem dim or blurry. And changing your prescription may no longer help. About Cataract Surgery

Today's cataract surgery is considered having a "QUICK" recovery. The technology has progressed to where patients are returning to their full activites days earlier than before because of small incision surgery, no-stitch surgery, phacoemulsification, and intra-ocular lens implants.

Advanced Equipment and Techniques Deliver the Finest Care

Your surgeon at Parris-Castoro uses the phacoemulsification method of small incision cataract removal. Phacoemulsification is performed under a sophisticated high-powered microscope. The surgeon uses an ultrasonic instrument vibrating 40,000 times per second to gently break the cataract into very small pieces, which are then carefully aspirated out of the eye. Then, the IOL (the intraocular lens which restores focusing power) is carefully inserted and positioned.

The architecture of the incision can allow "no-stitch" surgery. To perform this technique, your surgeon creates a self-sealing flap that requires no sutures.  However, sutures are used in some cases.  We will discuss this procedure as it relates to you, along with the associated risks prior to surgery.

Removal of the cataract and the implantation of an intraocular lens by the skilled surgeons at the Parris- Castoro Eye & Laser Center can restore your world of vision. At Parris-Castoro, cataract surgery is an office-based, out-patient procedure. You don't have to go to the hospital. You stay only a few hours in the fully accredited, relaxing atmosphere of the Parris-Castoro Ambulatory Surgical Center, and you return home fully alert and comfortable the very same day.

Cataract Surgery is a Medicare/Insurance Approved Procedure

If you have met your insurance deductible and have secondary insurance for your co-payment, most patients have little to no out of pockets expenses.
